Join the movement to increase diversity in medicine.
Our Mission
The goal of PrIMES is to increase ethnic and racial diversity in the medical fields through a targeted, data-oriented approach to formal, near-peer mentoring. Our free program identifies students from racial and ethnic demographics underrepresented in medicine (URiM) and pairs them with current medical students or resident physicians who mentor them through the challenging process of becoming a medical doctor. Using the PrIMES system, the pairs progress through a year-long curriculum that is individualized to each Mentee's unique barriers and challenges. The program’s overall goal is to prepare Mentees for successful application, acceptance, and matriculation into medical school.
"Not a lot of people have the necessary exposure to mentorship, especially when it comes to this journey into medical school. And as premeds from underrepresented communities, that's key to our success. Hence, I'm glad to be part of the PrIMES family…Thanks for making this journey of ours a little bit more sublime."
Baffour Amponsah-Antwi, PrIMES Alumnus
Our Program
The program centers around weekly mentorship sessions between an Under Represented in Medicine (URiM) Mentee and a current medical student or young physician. During these sessions Mentees are given the essential tools to manage premed classes, build their resumes, and prepare for the medical school application process while becoming competitive applicants. Our long-term goal is for our Mentees to ultimately successfully matriculate into medical school. We are helping increase the diversity of the next generation of physicians in America.
“PrIMES matched me with my mentor, Dr. Motazedi, who has helped me understand the medical school admissions process better. Without PrIMES, I would be lost in this process. I am so grateful to have not only a mentor, but also a community to lean on.”
Stephanie Secaira, PrIMES Alumna
The Opportunity
PrIMES takes a targeted approach to addressing healthcare disparities by mentoring those who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM). We work side-by-side to facilitate strong relationships between prospective medical students and current medical students and young physicians to fight for the aspirations of future doctors from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds.

“All students should have equal opportunity to pursue a medical education, regardless of racial or ethnic background.”
Dr. Benjamin Hartley, MD, MS, PrIMES Co-Founder
“PrIMES has had an immense positive impact on where I stand as a pre-med and my journey towards preparing myself for medical school applications. What I love the most about PrIMES is having access to a Mentor who I can reach out for advice at any time and meet up with on a weekly basis.”
Edmund Sagastume, PrIMES Alumnus
